      Shine Health and Wellness

      Our Functional Medicine Approach

Shine Health and Wellness is designed around elevating the patient/doctor relationship. We are giving the gift of time back to the visit with 60 minute initial visits allowing the patient to tell their story and to allow the physician to see the whole person and all of the variables at play. Deep dive laboratory analysis and an extensive physical examination is done to look for root causes to problems and providing education along the way.

A personalized care plan is designed and patients are then partnered with the rest of the care team, patients are partnered with the lifestyle coach to empower and encourage patients to reach their health goals. Our mission is to help people establish sustainable optimal health and wellness and our vision is empowering people through partnership to identify and eliminate barriers to optimal health and wellness.

Partnering with you for optimal health through personalized, evidence base care.

      Our Key Principles

      • The patient and physician are partners in the healing process.
      • All factors which influence health, wellness and disease are considered, including body, mind, and spirit.
      • The physician uses multiple approaches to facilitate the body's innate healing response.
      • The care is personalized to each person's unique conditions and needs.
      • Good medicine is rooted in evidence based medicine.
      • Optimal health and not merely the absence of disease is the goal.

      Board Certified Family Medicine

"Having Dr. Shine as my doctor is like having a doctor in the family."

      My Journey

"I began this journey into medicine in 1996 when I entered USC Keck School of Medicine, very naive and believing that if I could use my intellect to diagnose and treat diseases, my patients could live a better life. I was taught that health was the absence of disease and learned all that could go wrong with each organ system. I am very grateful for the foundational training offered by conventional medicine, but never liked thinking of people as diseases or only offering drugs as treatment options."

      The Problem

"17 years of this journey and I realized patients weren't living a better life and I found myself apologizing for what conventional medicine had to offer. I believe the heart of healing comes through the patient/doctor relationship, but conventional medicine left no room to develop this, only offering quick temporary fixes to patient's problems."

      The Shift

"One of the pillars in my life is to treat people the way I want to be treated. So after my two children were diagnosed with asthma and food allergies as babies, I knew I did not want my children on medication for the rest of their lives but wanted to get to the reason why they had these problems and address things looking at their whole being. What were they allergic to? Can we change things by changing their diet and building them up nutritionally? How is sleep affecting their problems? What if they don't respond to the medication the way everyone else does?

I began researching and discovered the concepts of Integrative and Functional Medicine. The concept of an individualized, patient centered, science- based approach that empowers the patient and the practitioner to work together to address underlying causes of disease and promote wellness. The concept that people and diseases don't operate in silos but are an interconnected complex web of many variables made much more sense to me and restored my hope in medicine and sent me on a quest to learn as much as I could about the Integrative/ Functional Medicine approach. In 2016 I completed a Master's of Science in Integrative Medicine from George Washington University and am currently becoming certified in Functional Medicine through the Institute of Functional Medicine.

Knowing that my children and patients are not defined by their diseases but that they are unique individuals who should be treated in a personalized way, there are root causes which can be found and fixed and through partnership, can be empowered to reach their personal health goals."
